As a South African artist, I am constantly inspired by the stunning beauty of the Western Cape landscape, and 'Postberg Postcard' is an attempt to describe the ephemeral beauty of Spring on the West Coast. This limited edition art print is created using a unique multiple exposure technique that I've developed, combining digital and analogue media to produce a surreal effect that broadens the scope for imagination.
The artwork features a landscape scene of a blooming field of daisies and fynbos, where the riot of colours and energy of the Spring season bursts forth with a wild abandon. This idea of natural abundance is amplified by equally innumerable particles of paint. Shot during the spring season at the West Coast National Park outside Cape Town, this art print is a celebration of the natural landscape of South Africa, invoking the positive shift in consciousness that Spring brings about.
It was taken on one of my first photography trips in almost two years after being trapped in Covid lockdown, and thus celebrates freedom, and nature, and a return to the eternal cycles of life after a period of so much stagnancy. It was a perfect day, and an exceptional display of the world famous daisies. Left unperturbed by humans as it had been for such a luxuriously long time, the earth's vital energy was powerful and overflowing. Standing barefoot in the fields of flowers you could trick yourself into feeling as though you were tuned into its frequency; humming underfoot and in the air, radiating colour and life into the atmosphere like rain steaming off a hot tar road.
Using multiple exposure techniques to infuse the scene with an alternate spectrum of colour and texture, 'Postberg Postcard' is both otherworldly and familiar, and will add energy and vitality to any space. The fusion of particles of spray paint into the scene calls to mind the artistic style of Pointillism, enhancing the painterly impression of this digital photograph.
