Limited edition art photography print on archival paper
In 'Eswatini Dream' I’ve used multiple exposure photography to create a surreal, and psychedelic interpretation of a simple landscape scene in the forests of Eswatini, a small independent kingdom within South Africa. Immersed in nature on a hot and delicious Summer day, this piece evokes some sense of being lost in this lesser-known corner of the world, and attempts to visually capture the feeling of possibility and wonderment I experienced on this photographic adventure in December 2018. It was a beautiful experience in a special place, and this image calls to mind that more generalised feeling of freedom and joy more faithfully than it documents a specific moment in time. Some photographs do that, right?
Here I use different coloured filters to layer various perspectives of the same landscape, resulting in a kaleidoscopic, almost otherworldly image. The filters create a vivid, dreamy mood, like a mirage on some Earth-like planet with an entirely different atmospheric composition.
As an artist, I continually push the boundaries of objective reality, transforming the familiar into the surreal, and inviting the viewer to engage their imagination. 'Eswatini Dream' captures the essence of exploring the natural world as a child again, uncovering the magic that lies within it for those willing to look closer.
My inspiration stems from the unique and diverse landscapes of Southern Africa, and the myriad modes of perception that photography can unlock. Through my art, I delve deep into the environment, examining it with open eyes, mind, and heart, to bring forth a sense of presence. My work is a playful exploration of perception and imagination, with the camera serving as a magical tool for discovery. 'Eswatini Dream' embodies this ethos, resulting in a bold and captivating piece that will add allure to any room. It encourages viewers to embark on a journey of constant exploration, revealing different nuances each time it is admired.
